Back when my students would meet in person for dinosaur classes a colleague at COC created an assignment where our students would make their own Ichnofossil (Trace Fossil) out of playdoh. I adopted it for my classes and it was one of our favorite assignments and one that I was sad to lose when we went virtual. But because of how fun it is and because it possibly involves some cost to you (if you don’t have playdoh or modeling clay) I decided to make it an extra credit assignment for all of you. This can be as creative as you want to make it. If you want to use modeling clay, you can paint it, and fire it up and create your own sculpture, but that is certainly not what I am requiring for this assignment.
The assignment if you choose to accept it is to make your own trace fossil out of modelling clays or playdoh (examples of past works can be seen on the Ichnofossils.ppt in Week 2 module). You will also need to describe what the trace fossil is and why you chose it. I’m not grading on artistic ability, just creativity of choice and the description. It’s a fun way to get some extra points, 10 pts to be exact.
